Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is a 16-hour introduction to wilderness medicine and basic life support skills. This is a hands-on, scenario-based training focused on prevention, assessment, and treatment of environmental illnesses, recognizing and stabilizing life threats caused by trauma, and calling for a rescue in the event of a wilderness emergency. WFA is ideal training for outdoor enthusiasts, camp counselors, and backcountry trip leaders, and includes CPR, AED, and Wilderness Anaphylaxis certifications. Our courses follow the industry standard curriculum set by the Wilderness Medicine Education Collaborative.

Ella Hartley (Lead Instructor and Founder of WFA NYC) has been an outdoor educator since 2014 in multiple capacities, primarily based out of Leadville, CO. She has worked as a mountaineering and backpacking instructor, staff trainer, and emergency on-call responder for the Colorado Outward Bound School, as well as a wilderness medicine instructor for Desert Mountain Medicine. In over a decade of leading personal and professional backcountry trips around the world, Ella has responded to many remote medical incidents and emergencies that inform how she prepares participants for their roles as responsible outdoor recreators, guides, and first responders. Ella has seen what can go wrong, and she has seen how effective these trainings can be for setting things right, even saving lives.

As of right now, we do not have any Wilderness First Responder (80 hr training) scheduled.
